Avet: The World Cup Piste in Soldeu, Andorra

Avet Slope The World Cup Course in Soldeu, Andorra

Our KOKONO holiday rentals team´s favourite when staying in Andorra, the Avet Piste, which is the name of this outstanding renowned slope in the Andorran ski resort of Grandvalira.

Despite being a small country in the Pyrenees, in the past years, Andorra has awakened international attention to attract more visitors and investors thanks to its numerous possibilities for offering hundreds of skiing kilometres and multiple après ski options. To be more precise, the Avet Course was chosen to host some World Cup competitions, together with the Àliga Course, and the competition area and its classic layout, approved by the International Ski Federation (FIS) since October 2007, was prepared in a safe and spectacular way. You can see as well which are the current snow conditions for this slope on the Soldeu live webcam.

The Avet black slope is located in the Soldeu sector of Grandvalira, descending from an altitude of 2,250m to the base of the station, at 1,800m, and the giant slalom competition is held there. The track can be reached via the Soldeu cable car, with eight seats, and also with the Soldeu chairlift, which has six seats.

One of the main attractions of this slope is that you can have a big overview of the course track, both from above and below. This is a great visual spectacle for everyone, especially for all the fans located in the stands of the finish area of a big competition event. The entire route is perfectly visible from the town and can almost be followed, through the windows, from the sunniest rooms of most hotels.

The track is quite a challenge, the first wall is quite hard and you have to come out already very concentrated. Its orientation is northwest, so hard snow is usually found in the morning. The Avet track is a difficult track to go down, a demanding black slope, with two large walls divided, for a softer part in the middle of the course. Going down this track very fast requires a lot of technique, and if you hasten it is easy to lose control. We recommend sliding it at a moderate speed, despite its inclination, it is much more comfortable and safe to slide.

Ski World Cup Events

The Avet Course was chosen to host the Worlds Women Alpine Skiing Cup in 2012, and World Cup Finals in 2016 and 2019. The events were a great success and everyone was delighted with the organization, giving international recognition and opening Andorra to the world’s interest. Now, would like to repeat hosting another international big event, the World Cup Finals in 2023 and the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in 2027.

Andorra has been betting heavily for many years, for the organization of large snow sporting winter events, and alpine skiing at the highest level in the world is no exception. In this country, you can find everything a “World Cup” venue needs for it to take place.
